Hampi is called the city of temples.

 


According to historians, Hampi was once called Kishkindha, in fact the city flourished as the capital of the Vijayanagara kings from the 13th to the 16th century. Hampi is an open museum for tourists and pilgrims. Every turn of Hampi is amazing. Each monument holds more secrets than it reveals. 



This temple in Hampi is dedicated to Lord Virupaksha, another form of Lord Shiva. The Virupaksha Temple is a holy place located on the banks of the Tungabhadra River in Hampi in the state of Karnataka. Built during the 7th century, this temple was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its history and beautiful architecture. The temple has beautiful sculptures of many deities depicting the mythological stories associated with them.
